Located just a few miles west of the Texas capital of Austin is Dripping Springs. While you’re in town, you might understandably want to spend some quality time outdoors. If so, you’ll be happy to know Dripping Springs offers a variety of fun outdoor experiences.
Hamilton Pool Preserve
Among the most famous attractions of the area is the Hamilton Pool. Boasting a storied history (it was once the property of the brother of the 10th Governor of Texas, who visited it while he was in office), the scenic spot is available for skilled swimmers and others looking for quality recreational time. If you decide to swim, keep in mind that the pool has no lifeguards. Guided tours are made available for up to 20 people on Saturday mornings from October through April.
For much of the year, reservations are needed to gain entrance, and openness to the public is subject to weather and other safety-related matters.
Texas Hill Country Olive Company
Established in 2008, the Texas Hill Country Olive Company has taken advantage of the local land and weather, similar to what can be found in the regions of Italy famed for their olive oil. The company produces upscale olive oil and other similar items, such as vinegar. If you find that you’ll be nearby on a Friday or Saturday, you can schedule a tour through the facilities, including the orchard. Afterward, you can visit the tasting room and stop in at the bistro.
Reimers Ranch Park
Reimers Ranch Park provides many recreational opportunities. Safety conditions permitting, some may choose to go rock climbing, mountain biking, or horse-back riding. The park also features an astronomical observatory with two telescopes that are available for public use if you make your reservations ahead of time.
From October to April, regular bird walks are offered on the first Saturday of each month. Additionally, with good weather, guided tours for up to 30 people are given on Saturday mornings. These tours can be quite demanding, so proper attire and a bottle of water would be wise choices.
If you’d like to take part in some responsible drinking out in nature, Solaro Estate might be the place for you. Solaro Estate has been in operation for more than 100 years and is known for its fine wines. Tastings are available daily by the expansive vineyard. In addition, tours are available by appointment for groups of six or more people.
If you plan to visit Solaro Estate after a long day of outdoor adventuring, consider booking a nearby hotel in Dripping Springs where you can rest overnight. You’ll need more than a day to take in everything Dripping Springs has to offer!
City of Dripping Springs Farmers Market
On Wednesday afternoons all year, the city hosts a farmers market. There, many fresh, locally-grown items can be easily acquired. And while the quality food may be the main draw, the farmers market also offers a variety of other attractions, such as cooking demonstrations, live music, and carnival rides.
Whether you would choose to take advantage of one of these options or you decide to simply sit outside and enjoy the fresh air, a trip to Dripping Springs is the perfect getaway for lovers of the outdoors.
