Riviera Maya

If you’re looking for a new and exciting travel destination, the Riviera Maya in Mexico might just be the perfect fit for you. It’s a 100-mile-long area on the east coast of the Yucatan Peninsula, attracting beach lovers and spring breakers from all over the world. Its blue water and white sand will look great on your Instagram photos, and the breath taking view of the ocean is wonderful for relaxation. Interested? Before you book your flight and hotel, here are 6 useful tips for visiting the Riviera Maya:

Decide on when you want to visit

The Riviera Maya is located on a warm region, so it’s pretty much sunny throughout the year. However, peak seasons are around Christmas, spring break and the summer. If you want to avoid the crowd of tourists that go to the Riviera Maya during these times, you can choose to visit when it’s off-season.

Book your plane tickets earlier

In the recent years, the Riviera Maya has become a popular destination for tourists. Therefore, ticket prices tend to go higher during peak seasons, so you want to book your tickets as early as possible.

Make sure that your passport is still valid

Whether you’re traveling to Mexico by plane, by car or by ship, you need a passport that will remain valid for at least 90 days after entering the country. (A good rule of thumb when traveling is to make sure that your passport is valid for at least six months before you leave your home country.)

Get a visitor’s permit

A visitor’s permit (a form which you can get from your airline, travel agency or at the point of entry in Mexico) is only valid for residents of the 65 visa-exempt countries. These include but are not limited to the United States, Canada, members of the European Union, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Bahamas, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Peru, Venezuela, Iceland, New Zealand and Norway. You can also get authorization from the Electronic Authorization System if you’re from Russia, Turkey or Ukraine. Otherwise, you’ll need a visa to visit the Riviera Maya.

Make transportation arrangements

Since local cabs aren’t allowed to pick up passengers from the Cancun International Airport, you need to speak with your hotel so they can send a car for you. When you arrive at the Riviera Maya, cabs are readily available for when you want to travel between the different beaches and areas.

Plan your activities

Aside from swimming in the clear and beautiful water, there are a lot of other things you can do while in the Riviera Maya. You can go snorkeling or diving in the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef and freshwater cavernous sinkholes to see the area’s rich aquatic life. You can also visit the mangrove forests, the fishing villages in Puerto Morelos, and the beautiful Mexican views in Tulum. For a more relaxing time, the Riviera Maya has many luxurious spas where you can join a yoga class or get a massage. Of course, don’t forget to treat yourself with the local cuisine.

The Riviera Maya is a slice of heaven on earth. If you like swimming in blue oceans and lounging on white sand beaches, this is the perfect destination for you.
